Blog – Cast Away!

Casting is great for producing large numbers of concrete components of a bridge, especially like the Selmon Extension. We have to produce nearly 750 concrete segments for the project! To do this, we will be using a method called concrete casting. Basically, we build a mold for each the segment and then fill the mold with concrete and rebar. Each segment is produced in the casting yard, stored until the concrete is hardened and ready to go, and then transported to the construction site for installation. We’ll start building and casting the segment molds near the end of 2018. Be sure to follow us on social media for more photos!
